Tranny?
I have a 1988 Firebird 2.8 5 speed. I am getting a whining noise out of the tranny when coming to a FAST stop. When i push the clutch down then one second later the brake, i here a whining noise while the car is running and when it comes to a stop it stops. It only does then when i come to a sudden stop and does not happen when i come to a normal stop. Any ideas? I was thinking old tranny fluid or maybe low. But put in new fluid. i have no clue. My car is off the road and only gets driven short distances is. Could this have something to do wiht it, I dive it everyday though. But not enough to get it out fo second gear.

Well, if it only does it when you push the clutch in to stop then pull it out of gear, it is most likely the throwout bearing. Since it doesn't whine in gear your trans itself is probably good.

how do you go about replacing or checking that? Any ideas there. Even when i come to a stop in first gear clutch is down and brack is on, it continues making that noise. Could the clutch have air in the lines? Thanks again

Did a little more testing. Found out when i push the clutch in, the noise is NEVER there, when i step on the brake it shows up. Still the throw out bearing, (does not always make that noise). Also sometimes continues to make the noise even when the car comes to a complete stop and you can sit there and it just continues to make that noise until it you push it out of gear or you left up on the clutch, move and little then stop. Could I have air in my clutch lines? Any ideas guys?
