i have a 1986 iroc with a 700r4 and i've been trying to remove the transmission. i have removed all the electronics and cables from the tranny from what i can see. i have also removed the drive shaft and the crossmember. the last thing i thought there was to do was to remove the bolts holding the tranny to the engine. i took out 4 bolts and it didnt come down. is there 6 bolts? and if there is where are they located and is there any easy way to get to them? what is the easiest way to get the tranny out? thanks, troy

Yes, there are 6 bolts. 2 at the top on each side then 2 each on both sides. To get to the top 2 I unbolted my crossmember and lowered it some with a jack and used about 26" (20" + 6") of extensions with a universal joint to get at them.

The top two can be a major PITA. But as said we used several extensions and a universal joint to get to them, and then blasted them off w/ the air ratchet.

Hope you didnt' forget the torque converter bolts. That could cause some problems....
Yeah, I found that if you have trouble getting the top two bolts from the bottom then jack the tranny up, and you may be able to squeese a box wrench through the top.

thanks for the help, i'm pretty sure that was the problem. we had done everything else and were just hoping that it was something easier than two more bolts at the top. i guess i'll found out how much of a pain it is in a couple of days. thanks
