5speed clutch help

Hey guys. did the search thing and read through a thousand out of the 11k results and wasn't getting anywhere.

I just noticed today when I am shifting...I push in the clutch and sometimes it feels like the clutch throw 'shrinks'. like it engages 1/3 of the way up instead of 1/2 the way up on the pedal. this goes on for a couple of shifts then it seems to go back to normal. And just now it wouldn't do anything until it went to the floor..and then back to normal. Doesn't make any wierd sounds, no smells, no rpm slippage...

thoughts? it's on a 92 305...
I am about to dump 600 bucks on tires and now this problem...(as per life...lol). Should I hold off on the tires and see if it craps out or is this something readily fixed, if a problem at all.

Thanks,
Jay

found the uh..problem...lol

I guess I never even noticed that there was a clutch reservoir...anyways, it was bone dry almost. I filled it up and seems to be better now. I also noticed that there was a little hole in the cap...self bleeding? anyone else notice this and didn't have to bleed their system? 92 305 tbi....

No there not self bleading, you have to bleed them at the slave cylinder, there is a little allen head screw on top of the slave cylinder, get under the car and have a friend pump the crap out of the clutch pedal, then have him hold it to the floor, and crack the screw, do this repeaditally, as its not a fun task, and will take forever to get out all of the air. I would also be checking for leaks, it is a sealed system and even with wear you shouldnt have ever been that low, so Id be checking for wet spots. hope this helps a little, good luck, oh and buy a lot of brake fluid, and make sure that you keep the resivore filled durring this prosess, or you will have to start over, good luck

I don't have an allen screw at the top...just that pin hole that is raised about 3mm above the cap. I did notice that the push rod from the pedal is wet...but it's been wet since I got the car 4 years ago. Do you have a pik of this thing? maybe that's why I lost it all is the plug for that little hole disappeared...i just filled it up and pumped the crap out of the clutch pedal and watched it bubble through the window...then it stopped bubbling...I started it and drove away..no problems...
