shift points
i have a 88 gta, 5.7 700r4. what should the shift points be undernormal driving conditions. it as a shift kit. what is going on is when i bought the car 3 months ago, it would shift at 2000 rpms. then it started to shift around 4000 rpms. i took it to the tranny shop. he said it was stuck valves. he washed and polished them, and it work fine for 30 miles or so. then back to the same thing. some guys say with the shift kit, thats the way it should shift. well, why didnt it do it when i first bought it.

Shifts at 4000rpm part throttle are way high... if it was shifting at 2000rpm before (normal stock point), and then just started to shift at 4,000rpm there is something amiss. I have a trans go shift kit and a stock govenor setup and it shifts automatically at 2,000rpm in D (I rarely let it shift itself but thats just me).
I cannot say what is wrong, but I can say with confidence it is not normal for a shift kit 700R4.

Theres only a few things that cause late shifting. Misadjusted detent cable, governer and a improperly installed valvebody or torn vb to case gasket.
Usually when all the shift points are higher then normal its a stuck governer causing late shifting or the detent cable is adjusted wrong. If they did clean the valve body and it shifted better for a short time its possible the valve body wasent tightend down right or the gasket was damaged.
You might also call the lube places and see if they can powerflush your transmission to get all the crap out of the VB.
