What rear end to look for?

Hey guys, I am currently hating my stock 2.73's and open differential. I am looking for a positrac with 4:10 gears. Maybe 3.73's. This isn't a daily driver anymore, so i think the 4.10s may be okay. I am looking for something that will shoot me down the track and still be able to drive on the highway once in a while. My car is an 87 Sport Coupe LT. I was wondering what rears are compatable? I hear S-10 Blazers and S-10 pick-up rear ends are the same. Is this true? What else should i know before i go to the junk yard to try and pull one? I think i want to keep my existing rear and just upgrade the gears and drop in a posi unit. I have also heard of a posi unit from SLP that is supposedly cheap, but i cannot seem to find them for sale anywhere. What advice can you all give me in this area? And what cars/trucks should i look for my gears in? Also, how exactly do you count the splines and figure out what ratio it is? Sorry if this didnt make sence, I'm only 16.

S-10 rear ends are different. They dont have the brackets for :

1. springs
2. panhard bar
3. control arms
4. torque arm

The S-10 rear is a leaf spring setup and the camaro has trailing arms and coil springs.

The rears in the S traucks ARE NOT the same. However their internals are. So if you find 4.11 or 41.0 gears in one, you can put them in yours.

Yes the SLP posi is cheap; $99. You get it straight from SLP at www.slponline.com I think their part # is something like 64051T but I could be wrong. But it has 28-spline side gears, so you have to use 28-spline axles, which your car doesn't have or at least didn't come with. The only axles that will work are 90-92 ones from a Camaro or Firebird. Can be 6-cyl or V8, but it has to be 90-92 F car.

To count the splines: pull an axle; 1, 2, 3, ...... until you've gone all the way around.

Gear ratios are printed on the edge of the ring, in tooth count form; for instance it might say "41 / 11", which is 3.73 (41/11=3.72727272....)

Could be they finally used up all the old off stock, its been two years since the last Camaro/Firebird conversions. They are not making that $99 limited Slip (it was a used part).
