rear question
No. You have a 7.625 dia dr gear and 26 or 28 spline axle shafts in your 10-bolt. Reason, 1989 was a changeover year for the axle shaft from 26 to 28 splines. Depending on when your car was built or the stock of 26 splines your car could have one or another. Only sure way would to pull a axle shaft and check the spline count. Sorry no other info can tell what you have.

OOOOHHHHH NNNOOOOOO!!!!! It's an Eaton Gov-Lock!!!!
Yes, you can use it, at least for a day or 2 maybe. You'll get plenty of practice changing carriers if you put that thing in there though.
And of course, it's from 89, which means it's anybody's guess how many splines its side gears have.

If your going posi, stay away from the eaton with all the internal gearing, bad news-lots more stuff to frag and add to the collateral damage. Stick with an Auburn type posi unit for simplicity.
Do yourself a favor and start stock piling these rear ends now before you mount the stickies, I'm getting real good at real quick at installing these junk bast.rds

so I did a quick count and realized the problem. That rear may have been from a 89?, I dont know, just seen the disc rear had more splines with the 2 when I was swapping parts again.

Ok..auburn type it is...and I can use the 7.5 as well.. I have to get rid of this open rear before I even think about track time. All I do is spin for about 80' on one slick..
anybody got a good link for a reasonable unit?
Next thing I do now is pull an axle and count the splines , right?

I'd steer away from that also, try to keep with the auburn or detroit locker posi units. Clutvch packs are rebuildable...like anybodies gonna rebuilt this junk any ways, lol! The locker just uses teeth that mesh together to provide positive engagement. Nosiey when turning, but about as clost to a locker as you can get. Either of these two styles has alot less going on internally than either of the two listed on e-bay you linked. Also, aside from the complexidy of the two on e-bay if something were to happen that it broke, your done...as in rear end locked solid. With a Auburn type the worst that could happen is the clutch pack goes bad and you go intermittedly to a one wheel wonder. I'm yet to see a det. locker fail in person, but that's not to say it does'nt. Got a detroit locker in the truck and I like it, dont know why he did'nt buy a full spool, but hey, it's his money

That's the exact thing you can get (can't get? I don't know) for $99 from SLP.
Seems to me like it would be fine; a whole lot better than that Grenade-Lock.

Well, you must be getting hard up. Only mention of 41 tooth dr gear and then he says it now has a pinion (is it for the dr gear???)
What ratio is stamped on the gear?? you could something like a 2:73 41/15 to 3:42 41/12??
I think I would look elsewhere.

The posi and ring gear appear to be out of a 2.73 gear set-up. If the price ends up being right that'd be the unit to snag. You can always get thicker aftermarket gear sets, which would'nt be a bad idea since stickies are being used the extra strength of fresh gears over used factory type is not a bad thing. I know first hand what used factory gears can tolerate
So that there is a 2 series carrier and you';; have to just get a spacer like I have to be able to bolt up factory 3.42-3.73's or order brand new 3 series gears that will bolt up to this 2 sereies carrier. No biggie either way. But this is the unit you want.

He meant he "does not have the pinion" TYPO!

but even if reserve is $100 you still $300 under what a new one costs. Add $65 for the spacer to reuse your existing gear set, maybe $100 for somebody to set it up and you have your complete rear end with posi for less than a new posi unit period. It wont' last long, but those few passes you can get will undoubtedly be better than a 1 wheel wonder
