Valve body valve question

I'm assembling a level 3 Raptor transmission using a Transmission Center 700-R4 Master Rebuild kit. When I took the valve boby appart for clean and check, I found that the line bias valve spring had been replaced with a solid steel rod. A la B&M. My question is, with the billet servos, 0.5" pressure regulator and 13 vain pump, would it be wise to use the rod or should I order a spring?
