need this item identified on my t5

see the attached photo below. this is on the v6 t5 in my 84 sport coupe.

look at the metal bar that is bolted to the bottom of the transmission, and is directly below the driveshaft.

specifically, what is it? am i looking at problems if i don't reinstall it?

thanks in advance

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
It's supposed to be some kind of dampener or some other such thing. I removed the one from my 83 SC when I replaced the trans, and noticed no ill effects.

My friend with an 84 v6 vird was backing down his driveway one day and hit something and just decided to keep going, ripped the freaking weight right out of the tailshaft of the transmission. Broke off one or two mounts, too. Tossed that thing and never looked back.

I can't realy see it for sure in your pic, but I think I know what you mean even without the pic, but I image-processed it anyway; do you mean this thing here?

If so, the others are exactly right, it's a vibration damper.

Disposable if you can tolerate slightly increased vibes. I suspect the factory installed it on the 6-cyl cars because thy often got higher gears (more vibes), and the kind of people who would have bought a 6-cyl car new would have been less willing to put up with vibration (since they obviously had no interest in performance).
