The torque converter blew and sent metal shavings through the pump. We didnt have a pump on hand so we ripped the transmission out of an 87 suburban. The pump was set up for an auxilary valve body whereas my 86 iroc's was not. We simply blocked off the aux vb passage. Was this adequate?

 

Yes, that can work. The problem is, if the TC came apart the metal went into the cooling system and most likely in the the transmission. In most cases when a TC comes apart, it takes the transmission with it.
