TCC won't disengage!!!
Well, this started yesterday after I got home frome work. Went out, hopped on the highway no problem, got off 15mins later, got the green light at the top of the ramp, and it went down to 3rd as normal. I noticed that it seemed to 'clunk' more than normal, but didn't really get bothered by it. Also the rpms were lower than normal. Anyways, pulled into the parking lot, and teh engine is going WAY slower than normal, at this point I suspected the TCC not unlocking. To test it I stopped and sure enough it stalled. Started it back up dropped it in D and stalled again, like if you dump the cluch too hard (at all) from idle. So, I did the only thing left, reved it up and dropped it into Drive, some axle hop, spun tires and disapproving looks later i was on my way. Parked it, after stalling a couple more times (wheelhops really bad in R
). Anyway kept doing this untill I get back to my sub, at which time it acts normal, methinks: ah-ha Its Gone!
Tonight, before I even get to the highway its all locked up, stays like this until a few miles of manually shifting it (so it isn't lugging in 4th at 35mph) then without warning its all better!!
Other than the TCC, the trans shifts just fine, up down, engages hard (actually seem to be easier when I put it all the way into 1st from a stop). Very odd, and I was hoping someone knew what the cause of this is and how easy it is to fix.

Check the wiring connector for the TCC solenoid, it is located on the left side of the tranny case above the pan. If that is good, you might need to replace the solenoid itself. It is located inside the pan. When was the last time you changed the tranny fluid and filter?

It won't be an electrical problem, the TCC gets its fluid from the second gear clutch apply circuit. If it's staying locked in first then there's some kind of hydraulic problem.

Looks like I'll have to persure that old CRX I found today as a beater. Hmm, beaters are fun

one then you can do so you can drive the car untill you have to get it fixed is just jack up the car find the plug to the trans with the 4 wires..... unplug it and boom your TCC won't turn on any more.... just keep in mind that on the hit way your RPMS will be a little higher and it will eat more gas

What? Disconnect an emission device. Thats a felony. I cant believe you would recomend that. No one here would ever do anything like that. Hehe.
Disconnecting the harness is a great way to solve your current problem but is probably not the best long term solution. With out the tcc your trans will run slightly hotter which will reduce your trans life.

Thanks for the tip guys, but I already have done that. Problem is, it is still locked up. I think the solonid is physically stuck.
A few days ago (over the weekend) we pulled the harness out. its the one that is vertical, next to the shifter linkage, right?

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not inclined to spend money on this trans. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have a beater, then the GTA can rest and get a T56/LS1.
I'm just afraid that I'll never get the money to do that, and the 'bird will sit
. Oh well, we see
