Hurst install..need help

Hi, I'm trying to install a new Hurst Billet shifter on my T5, which in itself is no problem, but I accidently left the stick in gear when I took the old shifter off and now with the new shifter on its stuck in gear. The directions specify it has to be in neutral when swapping. I'm trying to move it around but I cant find neutral. Is there any trick to this?

thanks

Anybody? The damn thing is just suck in 2nd. I can move the stick freely, it just isn't having any effect on the trans.
