Bad transmission?
I'm running a 700r4 with 128k miles on it, with nearly 300 horsepower going to it. Yeah that's probably not good, but I'm wondering... Could my transmission be okay? Here's what happens:
When I have the shifter in D or OD, it will hesitate to shift; revs up a touch, then back down, then engages (no matter what gear it's shifting into). But if I shift it from 1-2 then it's pretty much instant, just like new. If I have it in neutral and I put it into 1st, it will chirp the tires for no reason at <1200 rpm.
The problem isn't getting worse, and I've driven it this way for ~2,000 miles.
With the problems I'm having, I'm not sure if the transmission is dying or if the TV cable has a flaw in it. The adjustment is properly set as tight as I can get it, and yes I'm positive I'm doing it right. There is no play in the cable at WOT. Could there be a kink in the shielding or something? What likely/possible things could be causing my problems?
If I do need to replace my tranny, what are the years available that I can swap it with? Does it matter, as long as it's a v8 700r4? Does the spline matter or are they all the same? What about mechanical vs electronic speedo? etc etc.
I'm poor, and I can't really afford a new transmission right now. Thanks guys, you're awesome.

so I take it from the lack of replies that my tranny is done for- or it's a one in a million symptom and nobody knows...

it'll last anywhere from 500 to 10,000 miles that way...
you're slowly slipping so its wearing out everytime you shift....
my 700r4 was doing that, but i just tossed in a T56 and called it good.

any 4L60 (700r4) V8 will fit but they are not all the same.
The best would be to get one out of a vette from the late 80's eary 90's. The vettes had a better servo for the 1-2 shift. Also the later trannys had a better pump. You can rebuild any one up to be better than any stock trans and might find that a better way to go than to try to find a 15+ year old used one.

Ihave had the same problem, and am still having with one tranny in my 92' they call it "flaring" when it starts to shift revs a bit then drops down I drove my car like that for probably 2 years slowly getting worse and worse (and I mean SLOWLY) eventually one day it basicly stopped shifting into the next gear without taching up to 5500 then coasting to let it drop gears really wierd but took to the shop they said "the 3-4 clutch was causing the problem
Hope that gives you some insight
