Park Not Working

Hi,
I have a 700R4 transmission all stock. Today while I was driving I put my tranny to park on a red light however I noticed that It didn't stop the car it was sliding like it was on neutral so I had to push the brake. When I came home I put to park again after parking my car didn't stop again. I'm using emergency brake for the moment.

What could be my problem? Has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks

Very first thing to check is the linkage at the transmission. What you are describing is real similar to what has happened to me. SOmetimes when the shifter cable takes a crap on you it wont go into park. When you go to give it that last little push, the cable will bend and it wont go in. My advice would be to put the car in the air, and get under it and check to see if it is going in to park(as far as the linkage is concerned), and check the condition of your cable. If the rubber boot is bad, replace it, its a problem waiting to happen.
