12 bolt users - BRAKES!?
Ok i need to get my rear end ordered pronto...
I called up Moser, got everythign situated and then the brake question arrose, he told me he wasn't sure if the stock drums on my car will work, i have to measure the 4 bolts on the axles (which i didn't do yet cuz my cars getting a roll bar installed) SO... Anyone who has a 12 bolt rear, moser, strange, whatever the manufacturer what did u do for rear brakes! Convert to aftermarket disks? Stock style disks??
Thanks in advance! Mike

I ordered a baer rear disk brake converison kit, and then had the backing plates machined for the moser flanges and press on bearing. Your stock drum brake setup has 3 bolts that hold the backing plate to the rearend flange. It won't work period. If you ordered the c-clip axle setup then you could use almost any chevy 4 bolt backing plate setup without machine work. If it is the ford press on bearing setup then you'll have to do something similar to what I did.

It isn't though. Moser takes the ford 9" housing ends and welds them on rotated 90 degrees, so you have to drill the backing plate to match the moser rear.

They rotate the ford ends 90 degrees, so you can have a machine shop drill the backing plate with 4 new holes. If it wasn't rotated then a couple of the holes would be placed outside of the backing plate if I remember right. It cost me about $100 to have a machine shop drill the holes and press on the bearings and cut a groove in the backing plate, so it acts as the bearing retainer. The caliper will end up in the stock location. I agree about the bs thing, Moser could have easily used a special GM housing end with the 3.150 bearing.

yea, my boss is a machinist, so all my counterboring and drilling was no charge. i guess it came back to me, cause i gotta spend the extra money, or my nice aerospace component brake kit wont fit. :lala:
