VSS questions
VSS questions
1) what does it stand for. I know what it is, just curious if the abreviation means anything
2) I have 88 camaro, and I am pretty sure it has mechanical spedo. If I go with T56, how does VSS fit in? The engine will be carburated with no ECM, but I would still like to be able to tell what speed I am going at.
Should the speedo gauge be replaced with something that takes electronic signal?

Ok I will answer this to the best of my ability, since I have a 90 firebird and diffrent set up. However, from what I have read:
1. VSS - Vehicle speed sensor.
2. Camaro's 86-89 had the VSS in the back of the speedometer. The cable ran from the trany to the back of the speedo and that is where the "conversion" takes place.
Where in later models 90 up the vss is in the tail of the transmission and wires lead from that to the ECU to tell the speed.
So, I believe that the speedo should work with out the ecu? Now someone with more experience I hope will chime in and correct me if necessary.
