A Few Questions About Operating My V6 700-R4

Hey guys,
I was just curious on a few things about my transmission. I remember reading on the boards that it is PERFECTLY okay to manually UPSHIFT your trans if it is bone stock (which mine is). Is this correct? Am I hurting any internal components by doing this. I have only done it once or twice, but I want to know what it does before doing it again. I know that its bad to downshift manually, so I do not do it. Also, I notice that driving in D vs OD gives better acceleration in city driving around speeds of 40-50 simply because it puts the speed of the engine more in its powerband (2500-3000 rpms for my 3.1). Is it bad to do that too? I heard people talk about an input sprag that I might be hurting or something. Thanks, those were just a few questions I need help with.
