Early TCC Lockup
Early TCC Lockup
Ok guys, I'm new to this BBoard, but not new to 3rd Gen camaros! I've been restoring a sentimental 87 IROC Z28 and have run into a problem I hope someone out there can help me with. My transmission quit. Bought a new highperformance one off of Ebay. Vette servos, pumps, etc. Installed no problem, but now the TCC seems to engage too soon. The TV Cable is adjusted correctly, but the TConverter engages way too soon at moderate acceleration. At WOT it seems almost normal, but still engages a lil too soon. Is this a computer problem? Meaning I need to "program" my ECM to recognize the new transmission? I unhooked the wiring connector and she drives fine, but no OD obviously, but when I hook up the connector she shifts strangely (early). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In 1987 the trans was a 4L60(700r-4), it wasnt till 1994 that 4L60Es came out with computer control.
The easiest way to solve your problem is to wire the TCC to a switch and turn it on and off manually.

When you unplugg the tcc connecter youll still have overdive. You just dont get converter lockup.
While the tranny shift points are still mechanically controlled in the 700 the tcc lockup is still controlled by the ecm. Considering that you didnt change the ecm the lockup should still be at the same points regardless of what trans you put in. Make sure your have the correct speedo calibration. The early lockup may just be from the possible increased line pressure in the performace trans. If this is the case your lockup probably isnt early just more abrupt and thats why you notice it more.
