Shifter problem ?
My 86 sport coupe 5 speed is really hard sometimes to go into 1st and reverse. Mainly like when you are just pulling up a lil then going right into reverse or vise versa. Any ideas whats wrong? I was told might be the lil neprene (plastic) insert that goes on the very end of the shifter that goes into the transmission. This problem happens sometimes when you got car off and neutral and go into 1st w/ car off and clutch down. I do beleive on another note its time for a clutch because...Before and stil yet I beleive when it has this problem going into 1st you can throw it in neutral, let off the clutch pretty much all way out, then all the way to the floor I mean as far as you can get the pedal down, then try and go into 1st and sometimes it works sometimes its still tough. It is now having problems going from 1st to 2nd sometimes when going down the road. Ok, back to why I think I need a clutch, going into reverse it grinds bad sometimes, clutch chatter on take offs sometimes unless you get rpms up a good ways, can't let out easy really, and going from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd, you gotta get rpms up good to or else it wil kinda hop and jerk up and down bad. That problem kinda straightened up some after some fuel injector cleaner and driving it some. Our s10 does that very thing w/ the jerking going into 2nd and such. If you get rpms and speed up good itll shift into 2nd and 3rd w/o any real problems. I don't think or dunno if it needing a clutch might be causing hard to shift into 1st and reverse from one to the other or not. I checked the fluid its fine, it was low when I got the car in the clutch slave cylinder on the firewal by the brake booster. I need to check the trans fluid and when I got the car the previous owner had driven it very hard and rough, the trans mount was ripped in 2 and he stil ran it rough. Any ideas other then checking the fluid in trans, a clutch, or bleeding the slave cylinder itself? Or if anyone knows for sure that one of thoose is whats wrong or something else please let me know. Thanks
