rear swap
rear swap
My wife and I are working on building up her camaro... This will be a strictly street car. The plans for the car include a 383 stroker with the 700r4 trans(rebuilt)... We want to put a posi rear in it but need some advice... I am not wanting to spend 2000-2500 for just the rear end. A local guy told me that there were some of the s-10s and blazers that had the correct length rears with the correct mounting hardware. They would have been 4cyl trucks with gear ratios around 3.73. Does this sound right? I would go through it and clean it up, replace the seals and such... Are there any other stock rears that will be a direct bolt in? The car will have the stock 305tbi in it until we get the motor in(prolly this winter)... Is there anything else that I would need to do right away to make the new rear work?
How about rear disk conversion for this car? anything off a factory car that will work? What would I need to do the install?
thanks
Dustin

Yes the new camaro rears will bolt right in. The small truck rears are the same but i don't think they have coil springs or torque arm, so don't do that. You could grab the gears and posi form one though.
