Install 700R4 and NOT set line pressure??
Just curious if anyone here has installed a 700R4 and NOT set the line pressure (just adjust TV cable properly) and then had the transmission last? I've dropped the 700R4 out of my 89 RS and plan to keep it on the side for a later project. I'm wondering if I can swap it in at a later time and not have to deal with setting line pressure. As long as you dont mess with the tab then the factory settings should hold right? So the only thing left is to adjust the TV cable properly? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've heard so many horror stories about the 700R4 burning up because of improper line pressure, I had to ask.

I removed a 700-R4 (1990 core; rebuilt ~20k ago) from a car, made sure not to move the slider, and reinstalled it without ever moving the slider. The settings were perfect; I tried changing them a few teeth each way, 1 or 2 teeth at a time, and the "original" setting was best. The cable and the optimal TV setting will not change in storage, which I hope answers your question.

Yeah you are right, I worded it wrong. I know I'll probably have to set the WOT setting on the TV cable every time the transmission is swapped, but then isnt there also that second part about setting line pressure that deals with the different RPM's (1,000rpm, 2,000rpm, 3,000rpm etc) and matching it up with the line pressure (using a pressure guage?). I've seen a picture on these forums showing how to set the line pressure correctly and it had a chart with all the different RPM's and what the line pressure should be at each RPM interval. Thats the part I dont really want to deal with. I'm hoping I can just swap the transmission back in later, set the WOT position on the TV cable, and then be done with it. Sorry about that (I write like a wetard sometimes hehe). But hey, jmd is giving me hope! I'll make sure not to mess with the slider. Thanks man!!

Yeah, you check it to make sure it is right with a pressure gauge (awesome tool to have, btw). There is no specific adjustments if something doesn't agree, it just lets you know there is a problem somewhere...
