Yes, they can be troublesome.

Until the cover moves the retaining ring won't come off. The cover needs to be pushed in a little to get the ring off.

Put some PB blaster or Kroil around the edges of the cover and let it soak a bit. I found that using a small hammer and tapping (!) on the center of the cover will help free it up (only tapping!).

IIRC there is a hole or two around the outside of the housing. Placing a punch through the hole and it can be used to push the ring toward the inside. Then get a screwdriver under it.

The slot in the housing is there to allow the seal to be hooked, pulled out some and cut. Then pull the seal out entirely (sela is an O-ring).

Make sure the O-ring has been pulled out first. IIRC I then used the pry bar against the cover (up into tunnel w/block of wood protecting the sheetmetal) and kept pushing the cover in and allowing the spring to puch it back out. Eventually it started to come out.

Some have also grabbed the cover protrusion with pliers to help wiggle it out. Just don't destroy that area as the servo pin sits inside of that part.

Keep wiggling that thing back and forth,, it will eventually come out. Your green seal is doing it's job quite well, by not letting you just pull it out. But, it will eventually come out. You can do it......

You have to cut the o-ring, then pull the o-ring out, now the cover will come out.
