transmission identification

the tranny i have in my car right now is SUPPOSED to be an 87 and up...but the guy that built it also stated that he knew what he was doing....well the tranny is hozed so he obviously lied to me once and so i was just wondering if there was a ID code or something on it other than the valve body configuration where i could find out what year my tranny is....

Transmission: `95 T56 \ `88 200-4R
Look around the case, just above the pan and such. Post that information here.

I know a 200-4R is stamped around the pan lip somewhere and has a tag on the tailhousing. An 85 Monte SS 200-4R is 5CQ, an 86 SS box is 6CZ, 87 is 7CZ etc.

I bet you'll find the code if you look. I just don't know what all the 700-R4 codes are.

If it has a rainbow shaped casting mark on the passenger side, and if the test ports aren't there on the passenger rear, then it is a desirable model (I think it even means '89-up)..
