More life?
I have a 700r4 tranny in a 89 iroc 5.7L, this transmission functions alright... it doesn't slip, what it does do is that when you put it in gear from park it takes a few seconds to drop in and from drive to reverse ect. Also if you have it in 1 and you get it near the red and shift into 2nd it does not shift it will just go right into the red. Im prepared to junk this tranny and get a new one or rebuild one I have hanging around with about 40,000 on it, my question though, is there anything i could do to possibly fix these issues and maybe get some more life out of it?? transgo? anything?

Here's a wild guess: You have a broken accumulator spring.

hey five7kid, was that a serious answer or were you just poking fun at the fact that it could be anything? I don't know jack about trannies, so I really don't know... if you were serious... where is the accumulator spring? is it something in the valve body that I can get to w/o pulling the tranny? thanks.

fluid looks alright... I've done a lot of searching and reading about the accumulator spring(s) and now I realize what they are, lol, I did a shift kit a year or two ago in a ford so im aware of what the inside of a VB looks like, but i don't know the names of too many things. Anyways, from what I read the accumulator spring only seems responsible for people having hard shifts 1-2 ect. I haven't come across anything speaking about very long pauses when shifting between park, drive, reverse etc. Is this just something I haven't been able to come across but could still be caused by an accumulator spring?

I would say thats probably not your problem. I would look more towards plugged up passages in the valvebody or a damaged manuel valve.

Thanks, I appreciate the help... I have an ATSG or whatever book that I bought on ebay on its way to help me figure out the names of **** and whatnot, but until then, would you mind telling me what a manual valve is and more importantly WHERE it is? Is this something easily replaced? This car isn't my daily driver (finally) so it's kinda been sitting, once I have some idea of what im looking for, im going to install a transgo and change the fluid and filter ect ect... anyways, thanks again. -josh

The manuel valve is the valve that is controlled by the shift lever. It is in the valvebody. I would suspect something in that neighborhood isnt right.
