TPI TV cable...700-R4 vs. 200-R4?

Hey guys...I'm wondering if there are any differences between the TV cables used on the 700-R4 and the 200-R4. The reason I'm asking this is because my friend just swapped an '88 TPI 305 from a Camaro into his El Camino and is running a 200-R4 behind it. Since he needed a longer TV cable to work with the TPI setup he just got a 700-R4 TPI cable and hooked it up. It works great until the engine warms up and goes into closed loop (I don't think that should affect how the tranny shifts since the only electrically controlled part of the tranny is the torque converter lockup), then it starts shifting funny. The engine also starts having a bit of a flat spot when you open it up, but I think that's another issue. Anyway, if anyone knows if there are any differences between TV setups for the 700 and 200 trannys I'd appreciate your input! Thanks so much!

I believe both should use the same TV cable.

Thanks Apeiron, that's pretty much what we thought too, so this issue must be something other than a TV cable issue I guess...

Engine problems can appear like strange shifting problems sometimes, for example a flat spot can make shifts feel late and hard.

The 700 & 200 use the same travel for TV.

unplug the 4 pin connector at the trans. If that doesn't change anything, it's not electrically transmission related. Since you say it changes in closed loop, I'd also say it's not TV cable related.

Hopefully he didn't gimp it up with a Painless or otherwise craptastic efi harness.

Yeah....I'm pretty convinced it's not actually transmission related...but I'll tell him to try unplugging the torque converter lockup connector and see if it makes any difference.

I certainly got a chuckle out of your wiring harness comment jmd...why do you dislike the painless harnesses? That is what he's using. It all seemed to hook up very well and seemed to be fairly decent quality. It's a stock '88 TPI setup with the stock computer and a painless harness.....is there anything in particular you think we should check on the harness, or have you just had bad luck with them in the past?

...just a reply from someone that's run a TPI 700 TV cable on a 200-R4. It works just fine.
