I am in the process of replacing the speedo gear inside my T5. I bent the snap ring outward too far when removing it (cause i didn't use the right tool - doh). Its like the one in the pic in this post https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ight=snap+ring only I mine it is to the outside of the speedo gear (left side in that pic) just past that rubber oring thingy.

Do I have to order this from a dealer or could I find it at a parts store?

Also, every pic I have seen of the T5 doesn't have this snap ring where mine was. Is it supposed to be there or no?

 

It's supposed to be there.

You can maybe get one at the dealer, or maybe at the junkyard, or maybe even at a shop that works on manual transmissions. I probably have a dozen or more of them laying around from T-5s and other transmissions I've worked on, that I accidentally didn't throw away. There's several of the same ring in the trans, and they come in a rebuild kit; so they kind of tend to accumulate.

 

bend it back together. It'll be okay if it's not totally tweaked.
