torque converter bad? Please help
I have a TCI Sat. Night Special TC, and I was shaking it around to get all the fluid out and it makes a banging noise, like things are loose on the inside. Is it normal for a torque converter, when shakin, to sound like things are banging or hitting the metal? Or if shakin is there to be no noise at all?

yep thats normal, i dont know the specific internals names but, one part is free spinning. If nothing was loose when bolted to the flywheel and in the transmission there would be no slippage, therefore it would be like a manual, with no clutch that wouldnt stop.

That magic freewheeling part is called a stator. It is what actually multiplys the torque in the converter. They used to make "converters" with out that part. They were know as hydraulic couplings. They did the same thing as a converter but with less efficency while creating more heat. So while its not neccesary that one be there for the engine to stay running it has obvious benefits.
