Oh man, why did this happen?? Pics inside...

Took it to the track Friday night (7/30) to establish a baseline before I change stuff. First pass, did a nice 2nd gear burnout for about 5 seconds, rolled up ans staged. Launched from 3k, with just a minor tire spin. wound up through first and power shifted into second at 6k. Wound up through second and went for the 2-3 powershift and MISSED...or so I thought. Then I couldn't get it in 3rd. Foked around for a few seconds, and finally ground it into 3rd. Wound up through 3rd, and went for the 3-4 and MISSED! Totally pissed off, I farted around w/ the shifter and clutch and finally ground/banged into 4th.

After the pass was over I couldn't shift it at all! Untill I came to a complete stop, and then everything returned to normal. Same thing on my second pass, except worse. The clutch wouldn't release at all, and I ended up having to RPM-match-shift each gear. Boooo! The clutch would only release at a stop. I decided to drive it home carefully to Park City, knowing the clutch wouldn't release at speed, and that I'd have to RMP-match every shift. I managed to get about 10 miles from the track (still about 20 miles from home) and while cruising along at about 65 mpg in 6th gear....BAM! BOOM! WHAMMO! ba-bang, cha-chang, ba-da, ba-da, ba-da, ba-da...

I coasted off the road and parked it in a hotel parking lot. Flat bedded it home Saturday and pulled the trans yesterday. Here's the out come...

I'd say a 3K launch and a 6K powershift with anything close to traction would do that. Weakest link in the chain is always the one that goes.

Did you check to see how many feet you have left?

You should be giving some kind of thanks to a higher power for that; I know people in wheelchairs, from that exact failure.

I still have two feet, which I'm pretty happy about, 'cause waterskiing(my other summer sport) on one foot would suck.

It was a stock clutch (Valeo) that came out of a '95 LT1 Camaro from years ago, thoughit probably has less than 10k on it.

I'm surprised a stocker couldn't handle that. It's not like I was asking THAT much of it.

BTW, my 60' was a average 2.2xx so obviously I wasn't putting an ridiculous load on it.

Well Tom, I think you may have found the problem....

Looks like it's time for a better clutch ehh?? Nice car you have now BTW. Hope your luck gets better with it.

Oh, and skiing with one foot is cool!! But not when it's out of necessity!! (sp).....
