How much room in the trans pan for sender?

I bought myself a few gauges, Fuel pressure (dakota digital), Trans Temp (dakota digital, and a voltmeter.

Anyway I have hooked everything up except the trans sender.

Does anyone know how much room there is inside the trans pan if I mount it on the side of the pan? The sender is pretty small about 2" long max.

About 1" of it will be inside the pan. Now I am not sure how much room there is inside the pan so that when I get a nut welded on and screw in the sender that it will not foul on the trans inside.

Does anyone know how much room there is around the pan inside?

I figured this would be the best spot to mount the sender as this would give the most accurate temperature what the trans is running at.

I have read some people not recommend drilling a hole in the pan but I am a firm believer in doing things right and frankly I don't see any other better way of doing it.
