Hi,
I have an 84 Camaro Automatic. Well today, as I was driving home. I stooped to get the mail. As I was putting the shifter from Drive to Park. The shifter felt like something gave way, and now the shifter can go from Park to 1st but the car doesn't do anything. The shifter feels really loose now too.

Is there a cable that attaches to the shifter to the transmission? Could this have broke, and causing the car to be stuck in neutral?

If you think its the cable, is this something that can easily be replaced, or would it be better just to tow it to a shop?

Chances are it's the shifter cable. It's pretty easy to replace. If you have enough dexterity you can replace it without even jacking the car up.

 

good to hear that it's easy to replace. what's all involved in doing it?

Is the dealer the only place to get the cable, or can I get it at any auto parts type store?

How much do you think they cost?

I need to get it fixed, I can't push it up my driveway anymore, and its blocking my garage eek:
