No OD or reverse. 1st shifts at 3600rpm

Car: 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible
Engine: 305 H.O.
Transmission: 700R4
No OD or reverse. 1st shifts at 3600rpm
Last night I was getting on the interstate at full throttle and at 70 mph when it shifted from 3rd to OD I heard a pop and intermitant grinding sounds.
I stopped and checked the fluid, still red no leaks
1st- wont shift till 3600 rpm
2nd -seems when it goes from 1st it goes directly to 3rd.
3rd- normal
OD- will not go into OD
No griding sounds etc.
Any ideas?

Axle/Gears: 9-bolt, 3.27
Problem with the band or sun gear shell. I've replaced several broken sungear shells for this same problem!

Well I had this transmission rebuilt and while they were at it had them add a 2000 stall from a same year corvette. Runs great, shifts on redline when in OD when I have the car floored.
Hated to spend the $1,200 but the car is much smoother now and is a better driver.
