Anyone know about speedo/tranny gears?
I'm swapping from 2.73 to 3.23, and the dealer told me I should have a 17/38 (drive/driven) gear combination and told me I should go to a 15/39 combo.
However, with my math, I think I should use a 17/45 combo and figured this would be easier as well because I'd only have to change the driven gear. Well, it turns out that the 40+ toothed gears use a different VSS sleeve. I just realized this as I was about to go to my uncle's and attempt to change the gear.
What's the difference between the two sleeves/housings, and is there any way I can use a 45-tooth gear in the other sleeve?
I really don't want to have to deal with dropping the tailshaft to replace the drive gear if I don't have to..

The gears with higher tooth counts have a larger diameter, so the position of the shaft on the housing needs to be offset in order to mesh properly with the drive gear.

Is there any way I can modify the current one? If not, I guess I'm stuck either finding a new sleeve or buying different gears and dropping the tailshaft.

Hmm I thought the one time I saw a price it was like $60 or $70. Maybe I'll call around a bit.

Bah, GM discontinued it and it listed for like $108.
*sigh* is it even possible to switch to the mechanical style
Maybe its just time to buy some chip-burning software and fix it in the programming..
