I'm changing speedo gears because I changed my rear axel ratio. I have the tailshaft housing off, but I can't the clip off that holds the gear on. It looks like a strip of metal that has one end rolled into an eye and the other end has a 90* bend. What's the trick to getting it off?

 

You squeeze it toward the shaft. It has a tab that goe in a hole in the shaft to hold it to the shaft, and 2 smaller tabs that grasp the sides of the gear. Push the outer half toward the shaft and slide the gear off over it.
