Hey, I just upgraded from an 87 2.8/5 spd to an 86 ta with an LG4/700R4. And I have already decided I want a shift kit. Bad. But I was wondering:
1. Will it quicken the responce time when I click it from 1 to 2 or from 2 to D (or D to O for that matter)? Because right now it takes a second for it to actually shift. Really annoying.
2. I have heard that some kits mess up your transmission. Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks, I know very little of automatics

The shift kit will make the tranny shift faster and harder, realitive to which kit you use. I used a B&M in my current 87 T/A. I have also used a TCI Street fighter 14 years ago (that was a nice kit, not sure if it is still available). Most people on this site prefere the TransGo kit and it does seem to be a better kit.
As for ruining your tranny, IMO that is not a concern. If anything I am old school in the belief that it prolongs the life because of less slippage in the clutches.

I have a B&M shift kit and corvette servo and i love them. The trans shifts when you want it to in a split second and gets awesome 2nd and 3rd geear scratches. Everybody puts B&M down BUT i have had nothing but good luck with this kit. For $30 you cant go wrong. Ive put around 3,000 miles on it and no problems what so ever.

$30? Really? I was thinking more along the lines of the B&M trans pack, because it says it gives you fully manual control and stuff. Even the trans packs are that cheap?
