when you swap out for a th350, you dont have to use a short tail car one
cuz if you do and if you didnt originally have a thm200c(82 and 83 only) then you will have to find a thm200c shaft(longer than 700r4 T-5 shaft)
the saginaw 4 speeds in these cars i forgot if are the length of 700r4 T-5 or of the thm200c
you can get a th350 out of a 2wd pickup 73- and later and put it under the car and use your original driveshaft if its a t-5 or 700r4 car
this will save alot of you from having to find and use a thm200c shaft,
you dont have to find one and use one
truck 2wd th350 are the same length and spline as the t-5 and 700r4 and maybe of the saginaw 4 speed too in these cars but im not sure on that one., i forgot, but im pretty sure the 4 speed is the same as thm200c,
t5 and 700r4 and truck th350 are all 3" longer than the thm200c trans
th350 car 69-up are the length of the 200c, but not some full size wagons in 76 and so forth i know- impala and caprice ones, etc. some of these wagons used a th350 with a 12" long tailshaft and housing!
reaaaaaal long and funky looking, ive only seen one so far, last summer,
good luck

Not entirely true. Short shaft TH350's were very much in use in trucks also not all trucks come with long shaft TH350's. You best bet for a long shaft 700-T5 made easy swap is with a 3/4 ton+ truck even then you will still find the majority are short shaft350's.

no short tail 2wd th350 in trucks after 72
period
not from factory
you better measure them again
69-72 truck th350 2wd are 28 and about 11/16" long overall
same as car ones,
73-up truck 2wd th350 are 3" longer exactly, basically same a sa 700r4, off by only about 1/16" in which is a very negligable difference,
trust me i know GM trucks 63-87, i have torn apart many more thna you will ever even own or maybe even touch and i have tons of GM factory book info on them and RPO's and all
the only short shaft 2wd version trannies you will see are alot of the th400 but they use a bolted on style output yoke(with a large nut that threads onto the output shaft and uses a carrier bearing in the driveshaft like the 63-72 trucks and alot of the 3/4 tons and heavier GVRW 1/2 tons 73-up)
with the yoke length included these th400 are the same length as a 9" tail th350(again.. they are truck 73-up only)
but if you want to claim that short tail wer ein 73-up trucks then ok whatever you want to believe,,
im just saying that a 2wd th350 truck tranny is the same length as 700r4 and t5 in these cars here and if you have a non 200c car(82 and 83) and want a th350 in it then you should find a 73-up 2wd truck th350 and the you wont have to go to the trouble of locating a 200c shaft
it will save alot of ppl alot of unwarranted wasted time and trouble and such,
no one needs to find a 200c shaft for a non 200c third gen f body, theres no reason to look for or use a 200c shaft if you use a 73up 2wd truck th350
im trying to help out 84-up F body owners and youre telling me opposite of what ive known and learned from years of GM truck experience, i literally grew up on 67-87 gm trucks, i have turned every little last bolt and screw and clip on all of them, i have compeltely stripped zillions of them down to bare frames cabs everything, for years., forced myself to learn RPO and stamping and casting codes of axles trannies sheetmetal parts tags, stickers, labels, how to decode the VIN and model codes both 80 older 13 and 81 up 17 digit, forced myself to learn paint codes and also all about other info like the feathers blazer packages, the gold and white(parchment interior) 50th anniversary package in '68, and so forth,
no short tail 2wd trannies in trucks after 72 and no long tail 2wd trannies in trucks before 73- from factory*

Nope not true, I can get a pictures of quite a few if you like. I own a 86 GMC 1/2 ton that was my dads (original owner) it has a short shaft TH350 from the factory and no it has never been replaced . Also right now Ive got two other trucks at the shop, one is an 80 or so and has yet another short shaft TH350 and this truck only has 60,000 miles on it, I doubt its ever been replaced. The other truck is an 83 and it does have a long shaft transmission in it but its that TH375.
As far as tearing apart more trucks apart then me you may have torn more apart but I put them back togather for a living.

Short Tail Th350's
Some of us are given short tail Th350's with fresh painted cases, B and M shift kits, and recent reubuilds in them; in that case we need to find the 200C drive shafts... any idea guys

I ended up with the long tail TH350 and reused my stock 700R4 driveshaft. If you got one with a short tail and you cant find a 200C driveshaft you got a few options. 1. Use the 700R4 tail conversion kit and re-use the stock stuff. 2 Have the driveshaft modified and do a torque arm conversion kit or 3. Replace the short tail with a long tail and do the torque arm conversion kit. If I were in that situation I would go for the 700R4 tail replacement kit (depending on the price to have it installed, I'm no trans guy). Then you solve the driveshaft length and torque arm mount problems at the same time and re-use all the stock stuff. Those TH350 torque arm conversion kits work but they sure are lame for the price.
