Rear End upgrade

Well, a buddy of mine has an old 1986 Camaro that is being parted out. He is selling me the rear out of it. The rear is a posi rear with 3.73. My current setup is a Pegleg with 2.73.

Is this new rear end gonna make a big impact on my cars drivablility?

You might find those gears a little too low for your 305. It will make a big difference in gas mileage. Just make sure you get the proper driven and drive gears to correct the speedometer.

I just went from 2.77 to 3.27 and while its not a huge jump there is definately a difference and its great!

The 3.73s are a bit much gear for the L03 but you will enjoy the change in acceleration.

3.73's weren't original to 86 except for a very few rare L69s so verify before you buy.

Well its not a new rear end from a store. My buddy has it in his basement. It came from his dads old camaro that was in a headon collision. They salvaged what they could and scrapped the rest. He said the rear end has brand new brakes and the gears were just swapped in.

Oh and something else I wanted to add...what is this driven gear thing that you are talking about? Will the 3.73 trow off my speedo that much?

I've been told that you can re-gear the transmission.....should be just a little piece that slides out and you can replace it with a new one from GM. I need to do this also since I just swapped out my drum/2.7x rear to a disc/3.2x gear.

I don't know the official name of the part.....but will go ask GM for it anyways. My description and gear ratio should get me the part to fix the speedometer issue of being way off.
