Shifter Slots wrong

i have an 83, with a big problem. i have a parking slot, but when it's put in park, it's really reverse, and the reverse slot is also reverse. i tryed messing with the arm and cable underneath the car but that didn't help much, does anyone have any ideas?/help?

Loosen the nut attaching the cable to the manual shaft arm underneath the car. Put both the manual shaft and shifter into neutral, then tighten the nut.

see that's the thing, there is no nut, it's a ball, with a pin over it, holding the cable on, and the cable isn't just a cable, it has an end with a hole, that slides over the ball, so it's really weird. does that help at all?

yeah, that doesn't move, it doesn't even loosen. there's just a pin, and then the end of the cable that slides over it, i can't adjust it really. so i'm confused on how to do it.

i just got the car and haven't gotten a chance to look at it or anything. but it's a 1983 305 cross-fire injection with an automatic tranny. i wanna say it's a 200 but idk

There was never a 3 speed overdrive offered in any platform by GM. Do you mean 4 speeds including the O/D?

ok, it says PRND321 and automatic overdrive, i d k a whole lot about it right now, i've had it for about a week
