Hi, I'm no expert but I could suggest a couple of things. There are some guys on this site who really know their stuff, so hopefully you will be hearing from them. In the meantime I will give my two cents...

Of course you probably thought of this, but check your tranny fluid, in Park, with the motor running and warmed up. Your tranny could use some work perhaps. And maybe a bit of Lucas Transmission No Slip while you are waiting. Just don't overfill--use a pump to draw out some ATF if necessary. Ever changed the ATF and filter? I've heard it's a good idea, might even help.

Next, I would inspect your rearend install, make sure everthing is lined up right. I've never changed a rearend, so it's hard to say what has gone wrong, but something ain't right with the reinstall. The 3.73 rearend should have worked, so I would say, take out the one that's grinding, and do what you need to for the 3.73 to work. Then baby the car until you get the motor modded a bit to handle those gears. And be sure to tell your girlfriend that when your car is running right, you will blow her doors off.

Good luck, and hopefully one of the real mechanics on this board will post soon.

Try replacing the vacuum modulator if it has one. You didn't say what tranny you have

If you havnt done so already check and re-adjust teh TV cable. Do a search for 'TV cable' and 'adjust' and that should bring up the correct way to do it. The method suggested by most repair manuals wont work with an older cable that doesnt hold as well as it used to.

Dont know about all the rear end problems. You can always use the 9-bolt and jsut get new speedo gears later. Theyre not too hard to get to and change, although the pinion gear on the output shaft looks like it might be a pain to get off. The PBR brakes (if equiped) will work ok with the stock master cyl. and prop. valve but the braking force will be reduced to the rear and the pedal will have more travel. In real life Ive found that the brakes work ok and all four tires will lock up jsut fine in a panic braking situation.
