best way to jack up automatic transmission?

hehe the first day i bought my car, i snapped the junk anchor brand transmission mount, now time to put on a nice poly one again, except this is my first automatic tranny and i need to know a safe location to jack it up a inch or so to give me the room i need? is it ok to lift it from the pan under it?

get a nice block of wood (1x4 works fine) that is at least as long as the transmission pan is wide, and use it between the jack and the pan.. This was you won't damage the pan as you will be properly spreading the load.
