700r4 Softer Shifts Hot
The shifts in my 700 are nice and firm when the transmission is cold, but seem to get progressively softer as it warms up. The transmission was rebuilt about 6000 kms ago, and at that time the corvette servo and .500 boost valve were added, hardened pump rings were installed, the load release springs were removed from the 3-4 clutches as recommended by the ATSG manual and pressure regulator was also modified based on their reccomendations.
My question is: what could be causing the reduction in firmness, and what can I do to solve the problem. From searches I've done, I think I may start with the transgo junior kit, but I am unsure if this will address this particular problem.
Any other suggestions ?
btw. I am very impressed with the level of knowledge about automatics on this site. Very helpful.
Thanks.

My stock 700R4 does the same thing in the T/A. I wonder if one could keep the fluid cold enough to experience the same firm shift all throughtout the drive. I thought I heard before though that real cool fluid was not good for a trans. But yeah, I hate to see the trans warm up to the point can barely feel it shift

Get a big transmission fluid cooler, thats why it shifts softer the fluids hot. Keeping it cool will not only firm the shifts up, but will greatly improve the transmissions longevity.

I have a big trans cooler, and a temp gauge in the pan, temp rarely hits 180, usually in the 165 or less range, but even at 165 I start to notice a decline in the shift firmness.
When the trans is cold the shifts hit hard, but when it warms up it barely feels better then it did stock.

I'm going to go with a trans cooler and one of the shift kits out there. The trans cooler to prolong the transmission life and the kit to get those kind of shifts when it warms up. No telling how hard a shift a cold trans with a shift kit will make
