Throttle linkage to TV cable question

Hello , i just got a Holley carb off of a coworker that had it on his drag car. It seems as though there is no provision for a TV cable stud. His car had a manual valve body in it so he didnt ever notice that it was missing (he says) All other Holley carbs i have seen have had the "universal" throttle linkage with the little lower portion (below the throttle plate) for the TV cable stud. It doesnt appear to be cut off, rather it was not a part of the original linkage. I have fabbed up a bracket that will attach to the throttle linkage to hold the TV cable stud but i will not use it until i hear that it is ok. I have measured the distance from the throttle shaft to the stud on my tbi unit and quadrajet and built it from there. I am just scared that the throw of the fabbed linkage will not be enough to accurately control the throttle valve pressure, and i dont want to waste my trans. Any help/ advise would eb greatly appreciated. Thanks -Bob
