i can pick up a gm 14 bolt from on old chevy 2500 out of a junkyard for like $75 bucks they quoted us. would this be worth it and able to handle my cars 500+ hp and 500+ tq?
if and when i buy that what will i have to do to it to make it swap into my car???

your goimg to have to weld up all new brackets for the pinhart? bar and the new break lines and the tork arm ect, ect

oh ya it will probly handle 500+ hp, as long as youi rebuld the rearend ( new seals, new bearings ect)

probably have to have custom axles made with a 5 lug pattern, about $350, and have the housing narrowed. making the brakes fit will probably be a pain too, i don't know how you'd make the torque arm fit.

i know how you would make the torque arm fit , youd have to make a bracket just like mine has. If you can do all the work yourself , i saw do it. It could be a fun little project. But your gonna need a junked thirdgen rear to get all the spring perches off . And to take measurements.
I used one in the truck when I had the BB 402. It was a 4.56 ratio posi and held up quite well. I had a set of custom rims built by a local low rider shop to retain the factory drums and brakes. The rims were very expensive and barely fit over the drum. IMO you would be better off geting a drop in setup like in the pics above.
this would just be nice if i could get it to work. i know they are very strong and i wouldnt have to spend almost $2000 on a rear end.

weld spot for shock mounts?

and im sure the posi is probably shot so i guess id cahnge that with the gears

Thats it guys, I'm just gonna go find a rear from a 1975 3500 dually and see if it'll fit in a 3rdgen. I'll put 4 slicks on the back and think I'm cool.

The 14 bolt rear end out of a truck is way overkill for a thirdgen. Too heavy, too big, and it much stronger than you will EVER need. For the money you would spend convincing it to go in there, you could have a very nice 12 bolt made for you, that would bolt right in.

the centersection of the 14 bolt is a lot bigger than a 9 inch or 12 bolt, might be kinda hard to fab a torque arm bracket, but probably not impossible. The posi may not be shot, as if it even has one, it's likely the gov-lock carrier, kinda like a locker, no clutches. i've got a 14 bolt in my truck now, and it looks like it would be kinda awkward under a thirdgen, but may work.
If you go with something huge like a 14 bolt its not going to be as efficient as something smaller. Theres a guy here that put in an 8.8 ford into his camaro and its as strong as a 12 bolt, way quieter than a 12 bolt or 9", and also is more efficient and requires less power to turn the internals.
thats true....its damn huge!!!! but they only wanted $75 and i figured it would be cheaper than a new 12 bolt or 9" but o well. besides i would love to break it!!!

i had one in my 83 chevy dually quadcab but it fit under it just fine ...LOL..it also had 4.56 gears in it but i dont see how even when purchasing it for 75 bucks it could be cost effective when you have to have every thing else around it made to fit.
not to mention the weight of it alone...
or the bulkyness of it i dont know if you would fit it under the car and keep a gas tank in place under there and if you did i dont know how well the exhaust would run around that beast.......
if it were me id do this to a 12 bolt first or buy a 12 bolt ready to go .
all honestly you can build a 10 bolt to handle 500hp

i dunno about 500, but you could prolly put some good numbers through one with a good posi, aftermarket axles, support cover, welded tubes, on a foot brake car. cant have the shock of a manual or trans brake, thats what gets em
