Stripped pan bolts/ Rubber gasket?

A few of the holes on my transmission are stripped the bolt just spins. What is the procedure to fix this. I know i will have to get a thread cleaner but will i need to then use a bigger bolt?

Do they make rubber tranny gaskets for the 700r4 not cork?. My tranny is leaking like crazy since my last filter/fluid change.

What type of oring should i use for my drainplug it has some big palstic one should i leave that or go to a rubber one?

either use a thread insert or drill and tap to next larger size. try leveling out the dimples in the pan and fixing the stripped bolts and your leak may/ought to go away. i'd leave the drain plug as it came.

Heli-Coil

Genuine GM

I don't like drain plugs

Plain cork is quite possibly the worst gasket material conceved by mankind. I dont know why gaskets made of it are still available.

depending on how bad the bolts are striped you can use some mech. wire and force the bolt in. It will (the wire) be squezed into the hole to keep it tight. We use it all the time.
However if more than 2 or three or if they are beside each other I would say Helicoil
There are a few other options on pan gaskets. Cork will work fine if you have a flat surface and don't overtorue it
The steel lined rubber are prob the best but not really nessary.
unless you have a bad pan.

Where do i get the steel lined rubber one from? Any part numbers? The pan i got is a new pan i wanted to have access to a drain plug and it was 20 bucks for the pan so i figured why not. But now i have leaks before i had none. How ever the gasket i had before was a beefy cork one the one on there now is some dinky thin deal. But i would rather go rubber since i know they are better anyways.

Who cares if it's thin. The GM one is thinner than cork, but it works better. No idea on the steel lined rubber. Since the pan & trans are (reasonably) flat surfaces, there's not much reason for there to be a steel core in a trans. pan gasket.

I went to napa and got a rubber gasket last week i just need to find time to put it on.

If i get one of those thread cleaer things they sell would that help the stripped bolts? Or should i just drill the hole bigger and put a heli coil in. I have never used a heli coil before.

Sounds like from your first post a heli-coil would be in order. They're not bad to use; just take your time and follow the instructions.

a helicoil works as follows:

drill out the existing hole larger with the correct bit.

tap it with the correct tap.

install the coiled square cross-section wire insert with the driver

knock off an end-piece of wire (that is used during install only)

This lets the hole be restored to original thread size & pitch. That's what I'd do. No reason to go with another size.
