Help, tranny mount?

How hard is it to change a transmission mount on a 1988 Firebird 2.8 wc-t5. Its the mount on the cross member, because i can move the tranny up and down. Any advice would be great

Use another jack and support the tranny..........use a WOOD block between the tranny and the jack...raise it up until you have enough clearance to access the bolts.

Do you have to take the cross member off first? Thanks

Nope. Here's what you do:

Jack the car up so you can get access to the tranny mount. Unbolt the nut that holds the mount to the crossmember. Put a piece of wood on your jack and place it on the tranny pan and jack it up a little so that the tranny is up off of the crossmember. Then remove the two bolts that hold the tranny mount to the tranny. Then slide or wiggle the old mount out (there isn't a ton of room to just take it out). Installation is just the reverse. Put in the new tranny mount, bolt it to the tranny, lower the jack and tranny so it rests on the crossmember again and tighten the nut down and your done.

Good luck!

Lol I already knew it was pretty easy, but I didnt know it could even be done with the crossmember in place. Wow now I dont have to worry about how to prevent a transmission from falling on my face lol.

I think I remember seeing a post about this a couple of weeks ago. I can't quite remember what the solution was, though. I think you can use an auto. trans. mount, I think it's at least worth a try (may take a little fab.). If it doesn't fit, than just return it.
