I've done several T5 speedo gear swaps for 3.73 rear cars with new GM plastic gears and steel sleeves without a problem. Do it.

JMD...When you say "steel sleeve" are you talking about a "sleeve" over the plastic shaft of the gear?or the steel sleeve pictured above(the one that goes into the tranny)?
Also...I have 3:73 gears with a T-%
The gear inside(round one) the tailshaft is RED,is there a gear to buy to get correct drive without changing the inner(red) one"
The one i have in the trans now is a grey color
Thanks for any help...I've searched this subject quite a bit,I only seem to get MORE confused...must be old age setting in!
Thanks
Steve
any part numbers would help too!!

Don't EVER trust gear colour. Count teeth. I've seen oddball T5 and 200-4R and 700-R4/TH350 gear colours.
Search through the Tricksters posts. He just recently (last week or so) posted GM speedo gear info with accurate tooth count information. That's the same info I like to reference Every single "gear calculator" on the web is incorrect compared to what GM put in cars. Do the math sometime on one of them with the factory tyre size & gear ratio; you'll see, it's funny but true.
There is no way to get correct speedo gear ratio with the red gear inside the trans. if it's an original GM gear and you have 3.73s.
You must change that one. Trending Topics
