Q about front axle; help please!

How much would it cost to replace the front axle, given that it is bent? I hit a curb (w/ the sidewall/rim of the left front tire) and went up on it at about 15mph. I'm pretty sure the front axle is bent and thus I was wondering how much it would cost to replace parts+labor. Also, would using a front axle from a junkyard be just as good as getting an oem/factory one? Thanks for your time.

BTW I have a 92 RS w/ 305 tbi& 700r4 just in case this matters...

sorry if this is in the wrong section. I searched first and came up with nothing.

You don't have a front axle. You may have bent the spindle.

The two front wheels aren't connected at all, that's why there's no axle. There's a spindle on each side that sticks out for the wheels to ride on. I'll try to post a picture later.

I don't know how much it costs to replace, I've done it myself but never had one done by a shop. According to the book it's about 1.7 hours though. If you've hit a curb you may have other damage, the best bet would be to take it to a frame shop and get them to check it and give you an estimate.

The tie rod(s) will usually take the damage on a hit like this.

Plan on somewhere between $150 and $1000 dollars. For more accurate estimates...take it to a garage and have them look at it.

Yeah I would think its the tie rods as well. Very easy to replace if you wanted to spend $60-70ish on parts and do it yourself (that's to replace both the inner and outer) per side. Did one of mine when I first got my car. Good idea to get an alignment afterwards.

A shop will charge between probably $150 and $750 or so depending on if they find anything else wrong with it, and the $150 price won't include an alignment.
