How about a 3.42? If you are running a stock cam it will be faster through the 1/4 and the 3.73's are gonna be harsh on gas even with the 700. 4.10 is too much for an hour long drive imo. It gets boring pretty fast when you are buzzing so much RPM when cruising especially with that long drive to school.

Agreed.

I have this set up (700r4/3.73) and on the road I get upwards of 25 MPG. Unless you have aspirations for the track, don't mess with a good thing on your daily driver.

2 cents,

Uh oh... I may be a dweeb (likely). 3.73 is what comes on the car right?

With a good tune, I've heard of members on this forum getting 28 MPG on the 305 TBI with the 700r4. After hearing that, I get disappointed with 20 MPG... especially here in CA where we pay 15+ cents more per gallon.

I'm waiting on the flame about my incorrect assumption that my car has a stock 3.73 rear end...

2.73.

3.73.

What's the difference?

Anyway, some simple math should indicate what will happen with that new rear end with respect to your MPG. Somehow I don't think if you are considering a new diff you are much worried about that though.

Thanks for the correction Todd.
