Mk4 Mk5 Mk6 ????????

Which one is my 5-speed? I am trying to locate the z-bar at a dealership or somewhere and this always comes up. Which one would be for a 1983 5-speed V-8 Firebird Trans Am? Is it MK4 or MK5 or MK6? I always thought that any standard shift z-bar would fit from a 1982-1983.

Check your RPO sheet and see which of the 3 appears there (assuming it's the stock tranny.)

RPO sheet location in 1983

I have never seen an RPO sheet in my T/A anywhere. I know I have a 84 Console lid out of a z-28 and it has it there. When did they start putting those sheets in?

Sheets started in 1984. RB83L69 might have the right code for an 83; I don't.

IIRC, I think MM5 is all the 'accessories' for the 5-speed, while MK4/5/6 is the RPO for the T5 itself.

Any Z-bar should work... I have one from a V6 that works fine in my Z28.

MK6 is the Code for V-8 5-speed

If any you guys need to order parts at the dealership for an 83 F-body for stuff like a torque bar mount or clutch hardware just remember that is the MK6 code. MK4 is for the 4 cylinder parts and MK5 is for the V-6 parts. This is just for 5-speed stuff on the 83 cars I think. Believe or not the Torque bar mount for an 83 and a 5-speed is different than all the rest if your using stock stuff.
