old tranny fluid causing slippage?

I'm buying a 92 v6 thats been sitting for 1.5-2 years. I just found out today the tranny slips and will not go any higher than first. The guys said it worked for the few years he drove it, and that he never touched the trans while its been sitting. Would the fact that its been sitting this long have that kind of effect on the tranny? Could this be a case of just dropping the pan, flushing it, and putting new fluid/gaskets to get it working again. Or, am should I start looking for new trannys or possible rebuilds. A tranny guy I called says it might be the seals not being properly lubricated. Just wanted the boards opinion....

thx

btw I still think its a steal for 300 bux good tranny or not.

Yes, I would waste the fluid & filter to see if it fixes it. No, I would not count on that fixing it.

sound to me like its time for a tranny rebuild. More than likely the 2 4 cluch plack is bad. This is a common problem with 700r4's.
