Clutch question

I just got done installing a new exhaust from headers all the way back to the tailpipes. Took it out for a little test tonight and was able to see that I picked up alot of power, prolly 40 or 50 hp. After a few launches and running out to third gear the clutch started slipping pretty bad. Never had a problem with it before tonight and it probably has around 5000 miles on it. If I remember right it is a Zoom clutch which prolly leaves something to be desired, but it came with the tranny and 5 spd swap stuff. ? I realise that the Centerforce is the answer but $'s don't alow that right now and I have plans to trailer this thing up to Portland to race some friends next weekend on the quarter.

Will a new clutch from like Napa fix it up for now or will it just start to slip too? Does there come a point where a low dollar clutch just can't hold the power?

Thanks for any help.

Save your money. Buy a good clutch. A centerforce for a T-5 isn't that pricey. It's probably the best bang for the buck as far as clutches go. A stock clutch will heat up during the burn out, and it'll spin(the clutch) all the way down the track.

Whats more frustrating, eating pork and beans for a couple weeks, or putting in all that effort for a crapy part that doesn't work?

Also, have your flywheel checked out. And measure the disc from the old clutch. Stock flywheels have a way of flexing and not fully mating up w/ the clutch. Measure the wear on one of the outer rivets, and then measure the wear on one of the inner rivets closer to the center. They sould be the same. If not, your flywheel is flexing from the clutch.
