is this a decent tool
is this a decent tool
Hey guys, I am getting ready to do the gear swap and right now I need to find a dial indicator. What do you think about this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MakeTrack=true
Since I never had one, its kind of hard for me to tell if it is a decent tool sold for cheap or very expensive garbage. Can anyone who used one of these provide any thoughts/comments
thanks

well you have to figure you get what you pay for. i use starrett precession tools. indicator from them runs around a 100 new as does a magnetic base. you can find them on ebay or else where used for a lot less. depends too on your budget too all in all it'd work ok for you and save you some jack over high price name brand ones.
thanks for the reply, Ed. I think when it comes to cars, we all have a budget (for some of us it could be $40,000 but it is still a budget) Sometimes, "you get what you pay for is true," but unfortunately a lot of other times you pay 4 times the cost because you HOPE you get a product is 4 times better when in reality 2 products are almost identical units.
I've been there before and I am sure you know what I am talking about. I strongly believe in not buying the cheapest because that's just a waste of money most of the time, but if technical specs (accuracy, durability, ease of use, quality) are comparable, it only makes sense to buy the unit that costs less.
I guess I am looking for info features that separates this item from 100 dollar one, if there are any. But then again, chances are I will use it 4 times in my life and you did say it would work, so I just might consider it.
